The Philippines is a wondrous, magical place. With over 7,000 islands, you could spend a lifetime there and never begin to see it all. With that in mind, here are three places to visit when you embark on your Philippines adventure.

Metropolitan Manila

The Philippines capital, Manila, is a center of all things in the country. Many call it a city by the bay. Sure, it’s humid and congested, but you can find whatever you seek here. It’s a shopper’s paradise.

And if you want to get close to a loved one, spend some time soaking up the sunset at Manila Bay.

Corregidor Island

It’s a tadpole-shaped island where heavy fighting took place during WWII. If you love history, take some time to visit this jewel of a place. It’s where Gen. MacArthur said, “I shall return.”

You can still see the remains of the war-battle barracks and canyons used to fight.

Rizal Park

If you find yourself in Metro Manila, take a journey to it’s heart. There you’ll find beautiful Rizal Park, which is 148 acres. It’s named after Dr. Jose Rizal, who was a national hero in the Philippines.

Everyone, from families to lovers, enjoy the park. I’d recommend taking a ride on the calesa, which a horse-drawn carrage made of wood. This park has playgrounds, fountains, concert area and gardens. It’s worth checking out.

No matter where you go in the Philippines, beauty and fun are at your fingertips. These three places are just a small sampling of what makes the Philippines such a great place to visit.

Baguio City – A Cool Philippines Travel Destination in the Tropics

Manuel Maniquis asked:

A famous Philippines travel destination up north is Baguio City. Baguio is fondly called as the summer capital of the Philippines because tourists flock to the area during summer. The reason – it is much cooler to spend summer in Baguio than any other place in the Philippines. With its location atop the Cordillera Mountains, at an elevation of 1,500 meters above sea level, it is the closest thing the country has to a mountain resort.

There are so many things you can do in this Philippines travel destination. True enough, you might have to travel 6 hours by land or 45 minutes by plane to Baguio, but for sure, it will all be worth it. Baguio is also called as the City of Pines because of the thousands of pine trees in the area. The presence of these trees adds to the already cool atmosphere of Baguio. One other thing that the city is known for is its strawberry farms. If it is harvesting season, you can ask your travel agent to set up your trip in such a way that you will be able to go to a strawberry farm for some picking.

Places of interest in this Philippines travel destination include the Burnham Park and the Wright Park. You can enjoy boating and horseback riding in these parks respectively. Baguio is also the home of the Philippine Military Academy, the training grounds of the future leaders of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Souvenir shopping is one thing tourists will enjoy in Baguio because several shops operate in the area.

For your accommodations, you can choose from a variety of hotels and pension houses that will fit your budget. You can also stay in Camp John Hay, which used to be the R&R place of the US military troops then. Certainly, there is just too much to do in Baguio.

Filipinos are extremely hospitable people. Guests are often considered like royalty in Philippine households. This is revealed noticeably during fiestas when even absolute strangers are accepted and permitted to partake of the feast that most, if not all, households within the town arrange during the occasion. Quite often, this hospitality is mistaken. Some households allocate their complete savings on their fiesta offerings and sometimes are even indebted just to provide splendid food on their table. They use the next year compensating these debts and readying themselves for the next fiesta.

The country features an excellent blend of cultures; in the Philippines, you can witness the jelling of East and West cultures. The roots of the people in this nation mainly lie in Indonesia and Malaysia. You can also find tints of Chinese and Spanish elements as well. With over 7000 islands the Philippines is a great adventure. Still a country overlooked by a lot of backpackers because of its distance away from the mainland. With its tropical white sand beaches and turquoise sea it truly is paradise.

Manila is a vibrant city and very western. You have shopping malls seemingly on every other street with all the American fast food chains. Malate is the tourist area with all the bars and restaurants. This may not be to some peoples taste as a lot of the bars in this area are targeted to the single middle aged male.

Not far from Malate is Intramuros which was built by the Spanish in the 16th century, is essentially a town within itself. It is a walled city with a moat that surrounds it (now a golf course). There is many a sight to see within Intramuros with amazing buildings on every corner and great cathedrals and forts. One was to see all the sites is to hire yourself a guide and tour the city with a horse and carriage so you can get to see everything in one day and also get all the information on what you are actually looking at.

South of Manila you have Pansagan, where Pansagan River is located. The banks of this river is where the final scenes of Apocalypse Now was filmed. There is not much in this little town apart from the trip up the river which is great fun. You hire a boat with two boat men who will pull you up river against the rapids to a waterfall where you can get a “waterfall massage” which is essentially where you lay down on your front on a bamboo raft and they pass you underneath the water so that the water falls hard upon your back. It does slightly hurt but is also much fun. After you will then make your way back down the river with the rapids which can be quite frilling depending on what time of year you are there.

On the southern tip of Luzon is Donsol. This is a must trip for anyone who visits the Philippines, from this little town you can get a boat out for the day to go whale shark spotting in which when one is spotted you get in the water with them in all your snorkel gear and swim with them for as long as they wish, in other words until they dive to deep water. Whale sharks are the largest fish in the sea measuring up to 10 metres in length.

The Philippines is one of the most sought after travel destinations in Asia. With its unique and diverse culture, visitors from both sides of the world cannot help but wonder at the beauty and attractiveness of this country. Its diverse and interesting culture is a result of its colorful past.

After being colonized by various countries for several centuries, it has emerged to become one of the most beautiful countries worldwide. Among the most visited parts of the Philippines are Manila, Baguio, Boracay, Palawan and Cebu.

Each of these travel spots has certain things to offer which are completely different from the other. Among the places mentioned, Boracay is probably the best. It offers good food, cozy hotels, exciting outdoor activities and endless partying with its beautiful crowd at night.

The most important part of this country is Manila, which serves as its capital city. Most of the important events in business, politics, as well as in arts and entertainment, take place in this area. Meanwhile, Baguio is the summer capital of the Philippines. Visitors can enjoy the good weather and outdoor activities offered by this place. Among the top outdoor activities in Baguio are horseback riding and boating. Palawan is undoubtedly one of the best tourist spots in the country. This place combines urban development with exotic wildlife and natural resources. The discipline and cooperation of its local residents help maintain the natural balance of the environment. Besides its beautiful white sand beaches as well as its azure waters, visitors can also visit good places like the Calauit Island in Northern Palawan and the Tabon Caves in the southern part of the region.

Cebu will not be outdone by its counterparts. It is known as the oldest colonial city in the country. Among the most frequented places by visitors in the area are the Kawasan Falls, Fort Santiago and the University of San Carlos, which is known as the oldest university in Asia.
