Choosing Between the Three Wonders of Puerto Princesa

Puerto Princesa, the famed city of the Palawan Islands in the Philippines, may very well be the last a bastion of nature and man coexisting together. Not that the Philippines has a shortage in nature and wildlife, but Puerto Princesa is unique in making progress to harmonize with its blessings.
This effort in harmony can be seen in the famous city’s three prime destinations for tourists: The Subterranean River, the Honda Bay Islands and the Crocodile Farm.
The Underground River Tour
Deep in the recesses of Mt. St. Paul is an 8.2 kilometer underground river. This underground river has an unofficial status of being one of the seven new natural wonders of the world, so majestic and awesome this river cave is. After two and a half hour land trip from the city, you will each Sitio Sabang, where a lagoon teeming with fish and wildlife greets the tourists.
The underground river is part of the Puerto Princesa River National Park, which is declared as a world heritage site. It is one of the longest navigable underground rivers in the world. Here, the locals ban motor-powered boats, since they want to preserve the natural beauty of the cave and do away with pollution. Canoe type boats are used to ferry tourists in and out of the cave.
It is a joy to see the rock formations in this cave, precisely because the locals try their best to preserve them. The Stalactites and stalagmites after all, are meant to be seen, not defiled.
Monitor lizards, monkeys and exotic birds can be seen from the mouth leading to the cave. A deeper exploration of the virgin rainforest is an enjoyable alternative for ******** nature lovers.
Honda Bay
Guides and port staff are just eager to recommend which islands should not be missed in Honda Bay. Island hopping is the best trip for families and beach lovers. Abundant seafood is available for lunch. Only 30 minutes away form the airport here, Honda Bay is open from 7am to 5pm, so it is best to reserve a day of your vacation time to appreciate this.
Snake Island, named for its shape are a popular attraction, while Starfish Island is fun for children hoping t see some starfish. Fish- feeding in Luli Island is a great activity that does not endanger the fishes or the environment itself. There is also Bat Island and Pandan Island. The remarkable thing here is that guides and boatmen see to it that rules are followed, that no littering is permitted. There is a preservation that comes form the locals themselves so foreigners follow.
The Crocodile Farm and Nature Park
The Crocodile Farm and Nature Park is a government conservation project that is nonetheless open to visitors and tourists. There are only so much crocodile conservations in the Philippines and this place in Puerto Princesa is one of them.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to observe crocodiles in their early stages and in their habitat. The remains of a 17-ft long Asian crocodile is preserved in the Farm. It was said that it was actually found in Tubatha Reef in Palawan. This is definitely a mist-see if you are in Puerto Princesa. Once again, the locals have managed to combine the preservation of wildlife while showcasing it.
Man and nature existing side by side, helping one another. This is quite possible, making Puerto Princesa a unique example that should be followed.

Philippines Packing Tips

If you’ve traveled at all, you know that packing for a trip can be time consumer and perhaps a worrisome ordeal. If you’re traveling a far distance, to some exotic land, the pressure really cranks up.
But, fear not. Today, I’ll give you a list of items you should think about packing for your next excursion to the Philippines. The last thing anyone wants is to being a vacation on a bad note. One pre-visit tip is to check the climate for the area(s) you’ll be visiting. The Philippines is a tropical paradise, but the climate changes from region to region.
Here’s a quick list of some good items to bring on your Philippines vacation:
1. Lightweight cotton shirts (to be comfortable).
2. Tank tops (again, comfort is key).
3. Shorts & jeans (mixture for climate and activity changes).
4. Camera with extra memory cards (capture everything).
5. Power adapter
6. Insect repellant (especially if you require a specific type/brand).
7. Sunglasses
8. Tagalog phrase book or cheat sheet.
I’d also recommend brining an extra suitcase, so you have plenty of room for souvenirs. You’ll definitely want to bring stuff home with you. In the Philippines, they call gift items “pasalubongs.”
While most Filipinos speak English (less in the more remote parts), knowing just a handful of key phrases in Tagalog (their language) will help you blend in more (they’ll appreciate it) and you’ll be able to navigate better. There’s no need to learn the whole language, but bring at least a sheet with 15-20 phrases/words on it.

Travel by Ship
February 19, 2011 by Anita
When it comes to booking a vacation, some people are reluctant to travel by ship out of fear they will be bored while sailing at sea. These people obviously have not checked out today’s cruise ships.
In many heads are the images of old where a person would sit on the deck of a cruise ship and read a book by the pool all day as they waited for the ship to get to the next destination. Sure, you can chose to spend your time that way if you want to, but there are plenty of other, active things to do aboard the ship as well.
Never fear, even if you were planning weeks of cruise travel you would not get board on the ship. Think of your stay onboard as a rental property in a floating city. It has all the great things that a city will have – entertainment, restaurants, and your lodging. But, unlike a rental property, this place to say keeps taking you to new places for adventures and memories that will last a lifetime.
If you have not been on a cruise ship, or floating city, in a while, consider this one. The Carnival Cruise Ship Elation is 885 feet long. In that space are a number of restaurants, three swimming pools, a theater, a gym, and a series of other venues for shows and entertainment offerings. That is a lot of entertainment space to cover in just a few days aboard. Chances are you will not be able to experience all of it.
Even if you manage to see all the major venues during your travel, there are also a number of minor venues that will be dotted across the ship.
If you are the type that likes the bright lights at night in the big city, make sure to check out the nightlife aboard the ship as well. Most evenings will find you a seat at a theatrical or musical performance, Broadway style. Alternatively, you may get a chance to see a stand-up comedian who will keep you chucking well into the night. And don’t forget to check out the ships clubs and other nightspots for the rest of the nightlife offerings.
For daytime activities, you will not get bored either. If swimming some laps or playing a pool game is not enough for you, never fear. There are often volleyball games, racquetball courts, even putting or driving ranges on many cruise ships.
If you are worried about bringing the kids on a cruise because you think they’ll get bored, think again. On today’s ships are arcades, computer rooms, rock-climbing walls, and kids-only facilities that will keep them occupied throughout the travel time.
By the time you just start to be able to take in all the entertainment opportunities available aboard the ship, you’ll likely be arriving at your first destination and preparing to go ashore. The good news is that once you get back on the ship and head to your next travel spot, you’ll have plenty more onboard exploring to do. There are a number of different type of people that you will find aboard a cruise ship. So maybe you can even have someone to discuss real estate in Torrevieja and Guardamar during your cruise vacation!

Capiz Accessories – Exotic Beauty From the Philippines
When it comes to collecting jewelries and accessories, women have different tastes. Some ladies collect diamonds, precious stones, pearls, and so much more. I however prefer accessories made from capiz shells.
I love buying earrings and bangles made from capiz shells. Why? I really don’t know the answer to that or maybe because capiz shells are from the country where I was born and grew up… The Philippines. These type of jewelry is so unique, exotic, beautiful and when worn, it reveals the feminine side of the wearer.
Capiz is a name of a province and a type of shell found in the Philippines; It is also used largely in interior decorating and as gifts and accessories. Capiz is a geographical location found in the Philippines facing the Sibuyan Sea. The Capiz shell is the outer shell of a marine mollusk called the “Placuna Placenta” which is abundantly found the Philippine’s coastal waters and is used for decorative purposes.
The Capiz shell is a semi-transparent and flat shell with a pearl like appearance. It is often used to create beautiful lampshades and other luminescent accessories such as chandeliers and candle holders due to its cool and striking appearance when light shines through. It is also used used to match many household and fashion accessories. Capiz shells are considered to be formal and elegant.
Used for interior designs, the capiz is used not only on lampshades, chandeliers and furniture, but are also decorated on walls. Numerous hotels in the Philippines feature capiz panels on the walls of their lobbies , hallways, rooms, restaurants and even in showers and bathrooms. There are some homes that uses capiz panels, but they’re generally reserved for formal areas only, however, a casual look can also be attained by using capiz panels.
Capiz can also be used to accent leather handbags, shoes and watches. In the Philippines, it is only natural to find gift ware and souvenirs made with capiz. Dishes made from capiz sell like hotcakes because they create an elegant, one-of-a-kind look.
Synthetic capiz shells are cheaper but it is very difficult to tell the difference from a genuine capiz shell. The use of capiz shell in fashion and decorating is unlimited. Capiz shell products gives the room an elegant or formal look and at the same time creates a pacific or coastal atmosphere. If you want to experience a Filipino ambiance or if you are visiting the Philippine Islands, make sure that you don’t miss out on buying a capiz shell product.
